Volunteers

Benefits of volunteering

As with any sport, calisthenics requires the volunteer support of parents to operate effectively. Without the assistance of parents, our college would not exist.

We encourage you to help at our college. You can influence your child's initial involvement, how much time your child devotes and their continued participation in the sport.

Apart from helping your child and the community, volunteering will help you to learn new skills, increase your self-esteem and confidence and understand how different sports and activities operate.

The assistance you can provide

All parents are expected to offer to assist, when they can, throughout the year. Some of the things our Imperial parents currently help with include:

  • backstage duties at competitions
  • prop creation
  • fundraising events, such as sausage sizzles
  • donating food and beverages, selling raffle tickets and backstage duties at our family concert
  • hair and makeup for competitions and concerts
  • minor repairs on, or washing of, costumes.

Volunteer spotlights

Volunteering has been life changing for the following parents. Read on to find out how embodying the 'Act Belong Commit' ethos has supported their children's passion for calisthenics and made a difference not only in their lives, but made a enormous impact on our college and community.

Teresa

Teresa got her first taste of calisthenics at the age of 11. Fast forward many decades later, she is now the president of our college in a sport that her daughter also loves and has been involved in since she was 4 years of age.

The president of Imperial Calisthenic Club for 8 years now, Teresa soon found that after her daughter joined in 2010, she enjoyed being part of a community of people that had a passion for a sport that brings together children from many backgrounds and capabilities.

After a few years of her daughter joining Imperial Calisthenic College, Teresa started in a role as joint team manager with our current treasurer, Melanie. From this point on, she continued with various volunteer committee roles including team manager, secretary and now president.

Teresa loves giving back to the community by being part of the calisthenic world beyond her just our college. She enjoys seeing the people that come together working so passionately and having the opportunity to watch so many young people strive for their performance dreams.

Melanie

Melanie began her volunteering journey with Imperial when her daughter was just 5 years old and a first-year Sub-Junior back in 2013.

From sharing the team manager role with our current president Teresa to taking on many secretarial duties, including managing our website, Melanie’s dedication has been unwavering. In her second year, she stepped up as president for 2 years, later juggling roles like secretary, team manager and publicity officer. For the past 6 years, she has expanded her skills as our treasurer and registrar and continues to manage our website.

Melanie finds immense reward in her volunteer work, valuing the friendships she’s made and the chance to role model the importance of community involvement to her children. Her efforts have supported her daughter's love for calisthenics, leading her to unforgettable opportunities performing across Australia with the state team, developing treasured friendships and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.

Melanie is most grateful for the special bond with her daughter that her involvement at Imperial has afforded them.

Julie

Julie embodies dedication and passion as a parent within the calisthenics community. For half a decade, she’s served as the head costume coordinator at Imperial Calisthenics College, ensuring every team member shines on stage with the perfect costume. But her commitment doesn’t end there.

With a decade of volunteering under her belt, Julie has worn numerous hats within the club, from treasurer to team manager to secretary. Her journey encompasses every aspect of the club’s administration, showcasing her versatility and unwavering support.

Yet, what truly sets Julie apart is her genuine love for the community. For her, volunteering isn’t just about the tasks; it’s about the connections forged and the bonds strengthened. Through her involvement, she’s cultivated a sense of belonging and camaraderie, both among parents and athletes alike. Calisthenics isn’t just her daughter’s sport; it’s a shared passion that unites them all.

Julie’s unwavering commitment embodies the spirit of volunteering and exemplifies the impact a dedicated parent can have on a sports community.
